On Tuesday, Councilman Price voted against a request for the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance that would prohibit the assembly, disassembly, sale, or offer of sale of bicycle parts in the public right of way. The ordinance would be modeled after an ordinance the City of Long Beach adopted following an increase of bike thefts within the City. Councilman Price voted against the ordinance because he felt that this measure would be used as a tool to criminalize those experiencing homelessness. Although Councilman Price voted against the request for a draft ordinance, the measure passed 10-4.
