The City Council approved a Housing Committee Report that instructed the Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD), with the assistance of the City Attorney, to report to the Council within 60 days with recommendations for the implementation of an Ordinance that will require greater transparency for tenant utility bills. Many landlords contract with third-party billing agencies who calculate and collect utility bills from tenants. Subsequently, tenants do not have a way of knowing how these agencies are calculating the amount charged to each unit and there is no clear way of disputing. Through this report, tenants will benefit from the implementation of a transparent process. To read the report, please click here.
