Councilmember Price introduced a motion instructing the General Manager of the Community Investment for Families Department (CIFD) to apply and accept a grant in an amount up to $5 million under the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) program–State Guaranteed Income Pilot Program. This grant will provide financial aid for youth aging out of foster care and/or pregnant California residents. Through this grant, the City has an opportunity to expand resources and support for survivors and add to the body of research regarding the impact of guaranteed income. It will serve as an addition to the Basic Income Guarantee: Los Angeles Economic Assistance Pilot (BIG:LEAP)--one of the largest demonstration projects the City introduced in 2021, and which was initiated by Councilmember Price.
