LA City Budget Season in Full Swing

Posted on 04/28/2023

Dear Neighbor,

This has been a busy week in City Hall as the Budget, Finance and Innovation Committee, of which I am vice-chair, is meeting to consider Mayor Karen Bass' proposed $13 billion 2023-2024 budget–the first in her administration.

As part of this budget, the Mayor is proposing to provide an additional $250 million for housing and supportive services through her Inside Safe program. These efforts will allow our City to take drastic measures to help get people off the streets and indoors. Additionally, there is a great investment in public safety through the creation of the Office of Community Safety, the increased budget in programs like Gang Reduction and Youth Development (GRYD) and the efforts we are making to aid our first responders.

While we go through these hearings, I am focused on ensuring that we are thinking of equity and hiring personnel faster. We will continue committee deliberations next week. Because the length of time for discussion varies by department, the schedule of committee hearings is frequently revised. You can find the latest committee schedule here

As always, I value your input and recommendations on the City's budget priorities. Please email Councilmember.Price@lacity.orgwith any suggestions.

With gratitude and hope,

Curren Price Jr. Signature
