The LA City Council approved a draft ordinance from the City Attorney which amends the Los Angeles Municipal Code attempting to limit displacement and homelessness, and restrict evictions for nonpayment of rent. The ordinance protects tenants that owe less than one month’s worth of fair market rent from being evicted. The amount of fair market rent for the Los Angeles metro area is set annually by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for an equivalent sized rental unit as that occupied by the tenant.
