Hello Neighbors,

On Thursday, Sept. 22, I stopped by the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) annual Gala celebration titled “Peace to the World, Justice for Immigrants.” During the special event, I presented Executive Director Angelica Salas with funds so that the organization can continue services and programs that serve immigrant communities in Los Angeles.

Earlier this year, I made the announcement for a $1.25 million immigration relief fund, which includes $500,00 for CHIRLA; $500,000 for the Central American Resource Center (CARECEN); and $250,000 for the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI) - allowing the three notable and respected groups to expand legal services, universal representation, as well as outreach and education to neighbors.

The deplorable actions taken by Republican Governors Abbot and DeSantis to kidnap a group of immigrants and lure them with false promises is reprehensible but a sad reminder that the fight for comprehensive immigration reform is far from over. Using our immigrant community as pawns is a despicable display of power and goes against the very core of what our country was built on. This is why it is more important than ever to support organizations such as CHIRLA because they are the window of hope to our vibrant immigrant communities that have given so much to America's past, present and future.

Sincerely,
