After peacefully protesting, urging for gun reform and demonstrating their devotion to stand united with their community, Tennessee State Representatives Justin Jones and Justin Pearson were expelled from the State’s House of Representatives by a Republican majority. During the City Council meeting, the Councilmember said that it demonstrates the vulnerability facing Democratic lawmakers in the face of hateful and unjust attacks by Republicans. Their discriminatory attitudes, he said, were clearly motivated by racist ideologies against two intelligent Black men who were exercising their constitutional right to protest. Both lawmakers have officially been reinstated after the incident garnered national attention and much backlash.
