The City Council voted unanimously to approve an ordinance that prohibits the distribution and sale of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) products, commonly referred to under the trade name Styrofoam. The ordinance is consistent with furthering the City’s goals of reducing waste, increasing energy efficiency, promoting equity and environmental justice, addressing the impacts of climate change, and advancing a just transition toward more circular, equitable, and regenerative economies. The ban will take effect April 23 and is aimed at facilities such as restaurants, coffee shops, bars, vendors and large retail establishments.
