The City Council adopted a report from the Public Safety Committee instructing LAPD, the Board of Police Commissioners, with the assistance of the Community Investment for Families Department (CIFD) and other relevant departments to report on resources available and needed to help victims of Human Trafficking, as well as ways to reduce the occurrence.

According to the report, human trafficking is estimated to be a $150 billion industry that increases during events that bring global audiences such as the Olympics and World Cup. Currently, LAPD has a task force that largely focuses in areas where human trafficking has repeatedly been an issue and in this year alone the Department has made over 650 arrest and recused nearly 50 victims. In preparation of the upcoming events, the Council is seeking to combat the epidemic by increasing and expanding resources to more vulnerable areas throughout the City.
