Councilmember Price attended a special event on April 11 at the SoLa Beehive with hundreds of youth and Dr. Jane Goodall, a global icon of conservation and science. During the presentation, young people enjoyed fun activations and interactive art and nature experiences.

Dr. Goodall is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and a UN Messenger of Peace. At 26 years old, she followed her passion for animals and Africa traveling to Gombe, Tanzania, where she began her landmark study of chimpanzees in the wild. Her discovery in 1960 that chimpanzees make and use tools rocked the scientific world and redefined the relationship between humans and animals.

In 1991, Dr. Goodall founded Roots & Shoots Youth Organization, a global program that empowers young people in nearly 60 countries and since its inception has greatly impacted youth in over 100 countries to act as the informed conservation leaders that the world so urgently needs. One of her two first cohorts of young people for her Roots & Shoots organization was right here in South LA - making her visit extra special for youth in District 9.
