On Jan. 15, I had the honor of joining my Council Colleagues, Council President Paul Krekorian, and Councilmembers Heather Hutt, Eunisses Hernandez, Hugo Soto-Martinez, Tim McOsker and Imelda Padilla to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy at this year's Kingdom Day Parade.

It was a truly uplifting experience to be in the company of esteemed elected officials, including Mayor Karen Bass, LA City Attorney Hydee Feldstein-Soto, LA City Controller Kenneth Mejia,  LA County Supervisor Holly Mitchell, who served as this year’s grand marshal, as well as the revered Congresswoman Maxine Waters, among others.

However, the true spirit of the event stemmed from the community itself, including all of the wide-eyed boys and girls, our seniors, and families, as well as all of the local community leaders who embody Dr. King’s dream!

As we reflect on what would have been MLK’s 95th birthday, let us all be reminded that, despite challenges and hardships, we must persist in our efforts to uphold the values and bring to life the kind of future he envisioned for all of us.
