Dear Neighbors,

Creating a greener, cleaner community for our District 9 residents is one of my top priorities, which is why I’m delighted to invite you to the South LA Eco-Lab Earth Month celebration at South Park Recreation Center (345 E. 51st St., Los Angeles 90011) happening April 6.

To kick off Earth Month and inform residents about exciting upcoming plans, I will be joining Asm. Isaac G. Bryan and the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office. Together with the South Los Angeles Transit Empowerment Zone (SLATE-Z), TreePeople, and numerous trusted partners, we will host an Eco Fair featuring booths from organizations and public agencies collaborating to implement transformative climate initiatives in our community over the next several years.

The Eco Fair Saturday will include booths with art, activities, demonstrations, and information from the South LA Eco-Lab projects, Los Angeles Department of Water & Power, Los Angeles Sanitation & Environment (LASAN), Los Angeles Urban Forestry, LA Commons and more.

This event is part of a unique collaboration aimed at assisting South LA in becoming thriving, climate-resilient neighborhoods by increasing tree canopy cover, promoting clean air, developing renewable energy infrastructure, and enhancing mobility options for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transit users.

The South LA Eco-Lab community covers South Park in Council District 9 and Vermont Harbor along the 110 freeway corridor. It's a collaboration of 18 organizations, including StreetsLA, Metro, LADOT, LADWP, TreePeople, T.R.U.S.T South LA, Coalition For Responsible Community Development (CRCD), Los Angeles Trade Technical-College (LATTC), and the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office.

As one of the leaders in South LA fighting climate change, I'm grateful for the opportunity and eager to continue to secure the equity investment our community deserves.

Looking forward to seeing you at the kickoff tomorrow!
