LA SENTINEL TURNS 90

Councilmember Price joined with Councilmembers Heather Hutt and Marqueece Harris Dawson to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Los Angeles Sentinel, the largest subscriber paid African-American owned newspaper on the West Coast with a readership of over 130,000. In 2004, the Bakewell family purchased the Los Angeles Sentinel, which publishes every Thursday. Danny J. Bakewell, Sr., a renowned Civil Rights and community leader, successful businessman and philanthropist, is the paper’s executive publisher, chairman, and chief executive officer.
