The LA City Council has approved a report requesting the City Attorney to prepare and present an ordinance to establish an annual permit fee of $27.51 for the Sidewalk and Park Vending Program.
In 2020, the City established the first street vending permit at $541. This fee was determined using the "full cost recovery" methodology, which included the cost to maintain and enforce the program. Due to financial hardships caused by COVID-19, the City subsequently reduced the initial fee to $291 for extended periods of time. In 2023, the Council instructed the City Administrative Officer (CAO) to conduct a new study that did not include enforcement costs, but instead took into account the average annual income of a street vendor.
