The LA City Council approved a report that requests the City Attorney to amend Los Angeles Municipal Code 49.99.2.C to require landlords to allow any companion animal already residing in a rental building dwelling unit. This continues a COVID-19 era policy, as Angelenos faced housing challenges and isolation related to the pandemic, many adopted companion animals which have become an important part of their lives. The proposal to reinstate the policy will allow animals living in rental units to stay there; however, when the animal or tenant leaves, the property owner can convert the unit back to their initial pet policy.
