The City Council approved a report and resolution from the Transportation Committee regarding implementing a 15 mile per hour speed limit in School Zones adjacent to 200 schools in the City. The report states that the default speed limit around schools is 25 miles per hour, but the California Vehicle Code allows for lower velocity on streets that meet specific criteria. This new reduced speed limit will only apply when children are present.

The following District 9 schools will be impacted:  Aspire Slauson Academy High School, Budlong Avenue Elementary School, Dr. James Edward Jones Primary Center, Holmes Avenue Elementary School, Hooper Avenue Elementary School, Main Street Elementary School, Maple Primary Center, Marguerite Poindexter LaMotte Elementary School, McKinley Avenue Elementary School, Thomas Jefferson High School, Ricardo Lizarraga Elementary School, Trinity Street Elementary School, 52nd Street Elementary School, and 61st Street Elementary School.
